2nd EURAIBI International workshop
PAIN AND BRAIN DAMAGE IN FETUS AND NEWBORN
Siena, 6 - 7 Giugno 2003 - Auditorium Policlinico "Le Scotte"
The notion that neonates are capable of experiencing pain has only recently been accepted. Neonates were thought to be incapable of pain because of an underdeveloped nervous system and a lack of myelination of the nerves. Recent developments have shown that the basic somatosensory pathways and anatomical and functional capabilities necessary for pain perception are already developed before birth, and fetal pain has been analyzed. There is increasing evidence that early experience of pain can have long-term effects and altered pain threshold in preterm neonates. You are cordially invited to join us at the 2nd EURAIBI International Workshop, to be held in the Auditorium of the University Hospital of Siena.
Important new scientific developments and their significance for neonatal and fetal pain will be discussed during this meeting.
Our goal is to promote an optimal interaction between basic research and clinical experience in a friendly atmosphere.
The president of the workshop Giuseppe Buonocore
